Monday, June 29 Berlin to Warsaw

Today was a 'lie-in' day (our tour guide is British) as our train to Warsaw did not leave until noon. Berlin has a beautiful, modern glass train station.

Although the train ride to Warsaw was about 6 hours, there was not a single complaint as everyone enjoyed the chance to sit back and relax. Choir members amused themselves with card games, reading and seeing how many people would fit into a 6 person compartment. The record (at least for this trip) was apparently 11 although so far it has not been documented.

Once in Warsaw, we had a short walk to our hotel and a little time to check in and rest before dinner. When everyone came down to the lobby for the walk to the restaurant for dinner, we were surprised to find torrential rain, hurricane force winds as well as lightening and thunder. It was quite a storm and appeared to stall over Warsaw. We tried to wait out the storm – finally our great bus driver, Ewald, brought the bus around and we had a short drive to a very fun Polish restaurant complete with folk dancing to an accordion & fiddle accompaniment and whip snapping, of which Rob is now a certified expert.

By the time we had finished our most excellent dinner, the storm had abated although the lightning persisted through the night.
