The afternoon was free to explore Berlin which, incidently is a very safe city for tourists as well as residents. Some of the sights we saw included museums with historical artifacts on Museum Island, the Dom Cathedral with it’s beautiful organ and the Holocaust Memorial which included not only the museum but the city block-sized sculpture resembling tombstones that we could walk through, meant to stimulate feelings of disorientation, fear, and of the unexpected. The kids were enthralled at the museums and very thoughtful at the Holocaust Memorial. Before leaving the Brandenburg Gate the choir sang our national anthem in front of the American embassy, which was received well by the crowd.
